Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Lecturer - Graphic Design, the Lecturer - Art and Visual - Photography will: create, manage and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives; participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department, the college, and the collective and individual interest of its staff and student body; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by UVU.


Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Design and teach an equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in traditional analog and digital photography, while maintaining a student oriented approach to education.

  • Plan, prepare and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.

  • Prepare instructional materials, including examinations, course outlines, syllabi's, visual aids and presentations.

  • Instruct, manage and supervise individuals and groups through lecturers, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individualized instruction, and other appropriate methods.

  • Evaluate instruction and learning through use of written, oral and performance test. Recommend students for advancement and graduation.

  • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records regarding student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.

  • Establish and maintain regular office hours and advises students during office hours and well as at other times as needed.

  • Assist advisors, department chair, faculty and department staff in maintaining an effective program by serving on committees and attending faculty and other meetings as assigned

  • Improve professionally and maintain currency in the courses taught and desirable classroom conditions.

  • Promote diversity on campus by serving on relevant committees, developing curriculum, and participant in relevant programs.

  • Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited institution with a masters degree.

  • Extensive knowledge of the traditional analog and digital photography.
  • Knowledge in curriculum development and instructional strategies and techniques in education.
  • Knowledge of photographic history.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program development and evaluation.
  • Skills in effective human relations and communication techniques.
  • Skills in counseling, advising techniques and interpersonal. 
  • Skills in public speaking and witting with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to do appropriate field study to stay current with the latest trends in education.
  • Ability to promote and recruit students.
  • Ability to motivate, manage, and evaluate students and work effectively with people.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
