Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Department Chair, and the Dean of School of Humanities, Arts and Social Science, the Lecturer - Spanish will: teach 15 credit hours of Spanish courses per semester in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college which are embodied in UVU's mission.


Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Design and teach an equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in Spanish. 
  • Plan, prepare and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepare instructional materials, including examinations, course outlines, syllabi's, visual aids and presentations.
  • Instruct, manage and supervise individuals and groups through lecturers, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individualized instruction, and other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate instruction and learning through use of written, oral and performance test.
  • Maintain a student oriented approach to education.
  • Recommend students for advancement and graduation.
  • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records regarding student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
  • Establish and maintain regular office hours and advise students during office hours and well as at other times as needed.
  • Assist advisors, department chair, faculty and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
  • Improve professionally and maintain currency in the course taught and desirable classroom conditions.
  • Promote diversity on campus by serving on relevant committees, developing curriculum, and participant in relevant programs.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • N/A


Special Requirements of the Position:
  • Must be fluent in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English, prepared in basic language teaching pedagogy, and willing and able to teach both upper and lower division courses.


Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Spanish and a one year minimum of successful teaching experience at the college level.

  • Extensive knowledge of the Spanish language.
  • Knowledge in curriculum development and instructional strategies and techniques in education.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program development and evaluation.
  • Skills in effective human relations and communication techniques.
  • Skills in counseling, advising techniques and interpersonal. 
  • Skills in public speaking and witting with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to do appropriate field study to stay current with the latest trends in education.
  • Ability to promote and recruit students.
  • Ability to motivate, manage, and evaluate students and work effectively people.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
