Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director - Career Development Center, the Director - Internships and Student Employment will: be responsible for internships and student employment as a part of Career Services and Student Employment; direct all internship activities including marketing to employers and students; partner with academic affairs to create and maintain processes; create essential organizational and legal documents; administer and review budgets and compliance issues; hire and oversee the Manager of Student Employment, student assistants and interns, and work closely with the Senior Director and other CSSE team members. 

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Direct Internship Services and Student Employment as part of the Career & Student Employment Office.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the policies, procedures, goals, plans, and budget of Internship Services and Student Employment. 
  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with employers, professional associations, community groups & other organizations leading to opportunities for UVU students from all majors to have relevant work experience/internships.
  • Evaluate and initiate contracts, infrastructure, & other arrangements advancing the work of CSSE Internship Services and Student Employment and oversee job development, promotions & relationships with various stake holders.
  • Direct the planning, budgeting, accountability, implementation of Internship Services and Student Employment including the use of computing technology to support internship and student employment management information.
  • Direct the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of internship services professionals, Student Employment Manager, support staff, interns, and student assistants.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret local, state, regional, national, and international policies, best practice, laws, and employment trends relative to student internships and employment.
  • Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Special Requirements of the Position:
  •  May require some travel and evening work.


Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master Degree of Administration, Behavioral Science, Business, Communication, Human Resources or other related field, and three years experience in career counseling, employment, job placement, managing internships services or other experience related to the summary of duties. A bachelor degree and four years of experience related to the summary of duties may be substituted.

  • Knowledge of career & student internship services, job search counseling and career planning, college student recruiting by employers, college academic affairs & curriculum development, staff and program evaluation research method.
  • Knowledge of developing marketing plans to meet or exceed goals.
  • Skills in collaboration and team work, persuasion, team building, budget management, making public presentations, and using computer technology.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group or individuals orally and written forms.
  • Ability to interface and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, college executives and employers.
  • Ability to lead high performance teams. 
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems and manage priorities.
