Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Vice President - Asst VP Academics, the Program Coordinator- Suicide Awareness & Prevention will: implement and manage the Suicide Awareness and Prevention Program at UVU; provide leadership and direction for the Suicide Prevention Advisory Board; provide training on the UVU Suicide Prevention Programs - QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) - for faculty, staff, students, and administrators; conduct QPR training for local community groups and public schools; conduct seminars and workshops; supervise the Crises Response Team; manage the budget for the UVU suicide prevention program.

Organize and hold monthly meetings for the Suicide Prevention Advisory Board.

Meet weekly with the Executive Planning Committee within Student Health Services.

Manage and authorize all expenditures from the Suicide Prevention budget.

Supervise faculty mentored evaluation teams. Meet with these teams at least monthly to provide program direction and receive data from evaluation efforts.

Prepare monthly reports of activities completed and future goals for suicide prevention.

Meet with faculty, staff, administrative, and student groups to train them in the QPR program, which helps individuals Q-Question a person who may be at risk for suicide, P- Persuade a person who is at risk to get the help that they need, R- Refer the person to the resources in their community of where they can get help.
- Meet with community groups and public schools to provide the QPR training.

Educate key university and community individuals on the suicide problem in Utah and at UVU and on the best practices for suicide prevention.

Supervise the in-house crises response team of Mental Health Therapists as they respond to a suicidal threat.

Create campaign and promotional materials for Suicide prevention program outreach.

Supervise activities of the administrative assistant.

Must be eligible to be licensed as a psychologist, social worker, or professional worker.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, or social work and/or a master's degree and two years of experience related to the position summary.

Knowledge and experience in working with multi-ethnic and diverse groups.

Knowledge of current best practices in suicide prevention.

Knowledge of psychological principles and methodology, including evaluation, therapy, learning disabilities, and therapy outcomes.

Skill in human relations, communications, group and individual therapy techniques, assessment, report writing, and supervision.

Multimedia skill and promotion skills.

Ability to create outreach campaign materials for the prevention program.

Must be self-motivated, out-going, energetic, and provide best practice leadership in suicide awareness and prevention.
