Position: Advisor Generalist - Outreach

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director, works with seventh to twelfth grades individually or in groups to promote educational talent search (PTS) at UVU.


Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Works with high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Coordinates educational talent search (ETS) programs and activities in Uintah County.
  • Supports program student recruitment.
  • Works one on one with students grades 7-12 during school hours.
  • Monitors the implementation of structured and calendared guidance activities mandated by the program.
  • Monitors the education/career aspirations of juniors and seniors i the program in the Target Area.
  • Provides and disseminates information to potential first-generation college students in identifying work, college and scholarship opportunities.
  • Provides assistance with college application and financial aid application processes.
  • Provides periodic workshops on affective and academic topics, such as stress management and test taking.
  • Coordinates activities and screening of high school students, high school and post-high school dropouts, and graduates who have not continued their education to determine eligibility.
  • Provides academic, career, social/personal, financial, and transfer counseling to individuals and groups of middle school and high school students in the program.
  • Refers participants to appropriate organizations or programs for services to resume education, tutoring, strengthen basic skills and pursue postsecondary education.
  • Keeps parents, educators, and participants aware of the activities, programs, and the results of each student's participation in ETS in the Target Area.
  • Supports the advisement and mentoring of students in course work.
  • Uses teacher/administrator resources to organize various academic workshops (i.e. Math, English, Science, etc.)
  • Attends TRIO departmental quarterly training meetings.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential student records.
  • Meets or exceeds ETS program objectives in the Target Area.
  • Provides progress and data reports as needed.
  • Be an active liaison between ETS program and relevant local agencies.
  • Participates in all other operational aspects of the project, including registration, financial aid, assessment of needs, tutoring, testing, and placement.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree; or an associates degree and two years of experience related to the summary of duties; or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.

  • Knowledge of student advisement and recruitment.
  • Skill in records management.
  • Public relations skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a diverse group and/or individuals. 
  • Skill with computers.
