Under the direction of the Assistant Dean - School of Business, the Academic Advisor - Business Management will: advise new, prospective, and transfer students in all aspects of academic programs - including developmental and career advising; help students develop an educational plan toward graduation; manage an advising caseload toward greater retention; explain policies, make referrals, maintain records, interpret test scores, deal with academic standards issues; coordinate with faculty and staff; and represent the department on various projects, committees, and meetings as assigned.

- Respond to informational requests from potential students, staff, high school counselors and others interested in Woodbury School of Business and create/update informational materials.
- Interpret and explain UVU policies and procedures to advisees.
- Provide information, assistance and referrals to student support services to assist advisees in managing their college experience, including internships and research opportunities.
- Maintain a case load of incoming and continuing undergraduate students.
- Maintain student advising records using computer applications relevant for file maintenance and organization of case load.
- Assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans and academic major and emphasis selection which are compatible with their life goals. Facilitate career exploration and planning activities with students.
- Assist students with course planning to meet educational and career goals.
- Provide accurate program information to continuing and prospective students in person, via telephone and email and on site at UVU.
- Assist students with the enrollment and registration process.
- Interpret test scores and assist student in appropriate course placement. Counsel students in academic difficulty, remove holds, etc. to facilitate their progress.
- Review post-secondary institution unofficial transcripts and prior academic history.
- Advocate and problem solves with faculty, administration and staff on student academic problems, issues and concerns.
- Serve as a member of the Advisement Forum and attend and participate in meetings, activities, and events of the forum.
- Represent the department on any relevant University committees, departmental committees, or professional associations/organizations as needed and/or assigned.
- Consult with faculty and staff in order to provide accurate information concerning program changes, assessment guidelines, course and instructor information, transfer issues, scholarships and appropriate referrals.
- Organize, coordinate or assist in managing a number of undergraduate student programs or advisement related events. Examples of such events include: Majors; Fair, Parent Orientation, International Student and Parent Orientation, Career Fairs, undergraduate information sessions, regional, national, and international guidance counselor events.
- Work with Advisors', Training and Development staff to learn all aspects of UVU academic advising and achieve advisor certification.
- Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
