Contours of Knowledge: an Interdisciplinary Conference | March 22 & 23rd, 2016

Please save the date, and encourage faculty, students, and staff to participate in UVU’s fourth Contours of Knowledge conference (March 22-23, 2016)

The Conference: Tuesday March 22, 2016

Contours of Knowledge is a one day conference in which students, faculty and the larger UVU community share current interdisciplinary knowledge and practices. The conference is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical examples of interdisciplinary emphases, minors, and degree paths, and how they can positively impact academic and professional opportunities.

The conference is open to any presentation approach by faculty and students: individual and panel presentations, scholarly and creative works, posters and multimedia, and seminars and forums.

Proposals will be due in early-mid February (TBA).

Interdisciplinary Studies Workshops: Wednesday March 23, 2016

The Contours of Knowledge conference will be followed by a half day of presentations and informational workshops led by Evan Widders, who holds a PhD in the History of Science from UC Santa Barbara and currently serves as Director of Multidisciplinary Studies at West Virginia University. These events are open to students, faculty, and all members of the UVU community.

11:30-12:45     A luncheon and plenary session will introduce Dr. Widders to the campus

community. His presentation, A National Snapshot of IDST Programs: How Can UVU

Fit? positions UVU’s efforts at interdisciplinary program building in a national

context and outlines benefits of supporting boundary crossing academic work for

students, faculty, and the institution at large.

1:00-4:00         Dr. Widders will lead a series of 30-minute breakout sessions focusing on

interdisciplinary program building. These sessions will highlight issues of special

interest to university and division administrators, department chairs and faculty,

academic advisors and career center staff, IDST program coordinators, and other

members of the campus community.

Breakout topics will include (schedule details TBA):

  • Program Development and Undergraduate Success Metrics
  • Curriculum Development and Gen Ed Integration
  • Advising Opportunities and Strategies
  • Postgraduation Success Metrics
