Program details: Recife, capital of the northeastern state of Pernambuco, is a tropical city with approximately 3 million inhabitants. Often called "Brazilian Venice" because of its many waterways and bridges, Recife is a large metropolis with white sandy beaches. Recife has an effervescent cultural scene, with flourishing music, dance, and cuisine. It has played an important role in Brazil's history, and is now its fifth largest metropolis and one of its strongest economies.
Tentative dates: June 7 – June 27, 2014.
Program sites: Recife, Colonia Olinda, Porto de Galinhas, with optional side trips to Rio de Janeiro or Fernando de Noronha.
Anticipated curriculum: Portuguese 1020 (4 credits), Portuguese 2010 (4 credits), Portuguese 202G (4 credits), Portuguese 352G (3 credits) or Portuguese 490R (3 credits), Language 291R (3 credits/required). Other courses may be offered upon consultation. All majors are welcome to apply.
Estimated program fee: $2,095. Apply by Friday, December 20, 2013 January 31, 2014.
Program fee covers: Classroom instruction, homestays in Brazil, public transportation in Recife, program side-trips, entry fees, international health insurance.
Program fee DOES NOT cover: UVU tuition (approx. $160 per credit hour), passport, visa, lunches, round-trip airfare, optional side-trips, soccer match tickets, discretionary spending.

Application deadline: Friday, January 31, 2014. Submit online application, two online letters of reference, $195 non-refundable application fee, and $300 program deposit. If you miss the deadline, you are still welcome to apply until the program is full, but please note that the program fee will be higher and space may be limited. Tuition Waivers: UVU Employee & Employee Dependent Tuition Waivers may be applied for up to six credits of ISP tuition.
Financial aid: Pell grants and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to this program, based on eligibility. Applicants must have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (BA105) and complete all necessary application forms for financial aid.
Scholarships: ISP will provide need-based scholarships to qualified participants.
