Program details: We invite you to enjoy China’s rich history and culture. China Study Abroad participants will be immersed in Chinese language and culture and will have the opportunity to study for six weeks at Chuxiong Normal University (CNU). CNU is the largest university in the region and throughout its history has received multiple awards from the Chinese government. CNU is located in the Yi Autonomous Prefecture of the Yunnan Province in southwest China. The city of Chuxiong is known as “The Cradle of Mankind” and “a treasure land of prehistoric life.” This region enjoys a pleasant climate with moderate humidity, picturesque scenery, and a profound cultural tradition.
In addition to Chuxiong, participants will visit Shanghai, Kunming, and Beijing, as well as the other wonders of that region of China. Students will receive class instruction, evening activities, and a personal Chinese tutor for more than an hour each day. Weekend excursions are also planned.
Tentative dates: May 7 - June 25, 2014.
Program sites: Two days in Shanghai, six weeks of instruction at Chuxiong Normal University, three days in Beijing.
Anticipated curriculum: Students will register for 4-6 credit hours from the following courses: Beginning Chinese II (CHIN 1020), Chinese Character Writing (CHIN 2000), Intermediate Chinese I (CHIN 2010), Intermediate Chinese II (CHIN 202G), Advanced Chinese (CHIN 3050), Chinese Culture and Civilizaton (CHIN 3510), Chinese Language and Culture (CHIN 4050), Independent Study (LANG 291R).
Estimated program fee: $3,395. Apply by Friday, December 20, 2013 January 31, 2014.
Program fee covers: China visa; classroom instruction; educational materials; housing; hotels, breakfasts, lunches, and dinners in Shanghai and Beijing; boat ride with dinner on the Shanghai Bay; in-country transportation; entrance fees to museums, Forbidden City, and temples; international health insurance.
Program fee DOES NOT cover: International airfare (Salt Lake City-Shanghai and Beijing-Salt Lake City), UVU tuition (approx. $160 per credit hour), passport, cafeteria food at Chuxiong Normal University—food is inexpensive at the University since you pay for what you eat; an average meal plan for six weeks will cost approximately $300.

If you miss the deadline, you are still welcome to apply until the program is full, but please note that the program fee will be higher and space may be limited. Tuition Waivers: UVU Employee & Employee Dependent Tuition Waivers may be applied for up to six credits of ISP tuition.
Financial aid: Pell grants and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to this program, based on eligibility. Applicants must have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (BA105) and complete all necessary application forms for financial aid.
Scholarships: ISP will provide need-based scholarships to qualified participants.
