Macedonia: Emergency Services

Program details: Florida and Macedonia, here we come. UVU students will participate in a humanitarian service and disaster relief training simulation at Fort Pierce, Florida, and Camp Pepeliste in the Krivolak Training Center in southern Macedonia. After some initial instruction at Fort Pierce, students travel to Macedonia to participate in a training scenario where they organize and conduct a humanitarian response to major earthquake that has hit the fictional war-torn country of “Atlantica.” At the end of the simulation, students will work with citizens of a Macedonian community on a service project.

Tentative dates: May 15 – June 10, 2014.

Program sites: Fort Pierce, Florida, and Krivolak Training Center, Macedonia.

Anticipated curriculum: Humanitarian Service and Disaster Relief (ESMG 4150) and Special Topics in Emergency Management (ESMG 489R). All majors are welcome to apply.

Estimated program fee: $2,995. Apply by Friday, December 20, 2013, for this price.

Program fee covers: Housing, most meals, in-country transportation, international health insurance.

Program fee DOES NOT cover: Round-trip airfare (approx. $2,000), UVU tuition (approx. $160 per credit hour), passport, some meals, discretionary spending.

Application deadline: Friday, December 20, 2013. Submit online application, two online letters of reference, $195 non-refundable application fee, and $300 program deposit. If you miss the deadline, you are still welcome to apply until the program is full, but please note that the program fee will be higher and space may be limited. Tuition Waivers: UVU Employee & Employee Dependent Tuition Waivers may be applied for up to six credits of ISP tuition.

Financial aid: Pell grants and Federal Insured Student Loans may be applied to this program, based on eligibility. 
Applicants must have a current FAFSA form on file at the Financial Aid Office (BA105) and complete all necessary application forms for financial aid.

Scholarships: ISP will provide need-based scholarships to qualified participants.
