Costa Rica: Tropical Biology and Geology

Program Details
: Active
Experience the diverse flora and fauna of tropical
rain forests, the power and impact of plate tectonics, and the friendly
culture of Costa Rica. Two UVU faculty (biology and geology),
working with a fun Costa Rican guide and naturalist, will lead you on
an educational experience of the various ecological zones of Costa
Rica and the geology of an active volcanic arc. Watch glowing lava
blocks tumble down Arenal, float the Pacuare River, water slide under
howler monkeys at Rincon de la Vieja, zip line through the rain forest
canopy, swim in the Pacific Ocean, beguile the night insects, and
observe crocodiles in the Tarcoles River. Birds, flowers, butterflies,
and snakes will amaze you as you traverse from active strato volcanoes
to pillow basalts of the acretionary wedge.
