International Students Employment Information
ALL Students---Mandatory---you can only work 20 hrs/week…not any more!
ESL Students ----- You can only work On-Campus, no matter what level, or how many semesters you have been here.
All other students
You may work On-Campus for the first 2 semesters here at UVU. If you have attended another school in the United States already, talk to Lorraine Gunn. You must have been at UVU for at least 1 semester before you can work Off-Campus.
-
Understand where you can work…On/Off Campus. If you have any questions, come to the International Center and talk with Lorraine.
-
Look for a Job
- On Campus—You may go to www.uvu.edu/csse or visit the Career Services and Student Employment office in BA 113.
- Off Campus—First you must see your academic advisor. You many only work off campus if your department has internships available. Talk with the department supervisor for instructions. General Education/Studies students do not have internships…so you can not work off campus. You can not start working for the internship until you have authorization on your I-20 from Junko Watabe.
-
Once you have a job on campus—ask for a work clearance form from your supervisor, including a memo/letter stating that you have been hired. If they do not have one, come see Lorraine Gunn in the International Center. Make sure that the form is signed by your supervisor.
-
Come to the International Center and have Lorraine Gunn or Junko Watabe sign your Work Clearance form and write a letter for the Social Security office if you do not have one already.
-
Apply for your Social Security number if you do not already have one. You must have a social security number in order to open up a bank account.
-
Open a bank account, so that UVU can pay you through “direct deposit”.
-
Work…make some money…and be happy!
