Family-Friends Program

The “Family-Friends” program provides you and your family an opportunity to interact with and learn from individuals with a new culture, homeland and background. In addition to building lasting relationships, the “Family-Friends” program allows you to build goodwill for the Provo/Orem community and have a significant impact on the experiences the international students have while in the United States.

Volunteers in the “Family-Friends” program should anticipate contacting the student(s) monthly during the academic year. Suggested activities include inviting the student for dinner, attending a Utah Valley University event, allowing the student to experience a U.S. holiday, going for a drive up the canyon, etc. Phone or e-mail contact between visits could provide significant support to students adjusting to life in the United States. This program is not designed to become a burden and there are some program guidelines that volunteers are asked to adhere to: NO financial assistance for students; NO overnight visits to your home; and NO proselytizing. The program is intended to focus on generating an atmosphere of friendship and understanding.
