Pre-Arrival & Upon-Arrival Information for F-1 Students...
who have already received an I-20 from Utah Valley University!

 

Step one: Before You Leave Your Country:

● You must obtain an F-1 visa before entering the United States. (Canadian citizen are not required.) You must apply for this visa at the United States Consulate or Embassy which has jurisdiction over your place of residence. The consular office may require the following:

■ A passport - You must have a passport valid at least six months into the future from the time you plan to enter the U.S.

■ Make an appointment for Interview

■ A properly executed Form I-20 from Utah Valley University

■ Documents to establish that you are a bonafide nonimmigrant F-1 student.

■ Evidence that you have adequate financial support for your entire stay in the U.S.

■ Evidence that you have a residence in your home country which you have no intention of abandoning.

■ Visa application forms

■ One (2X2) photograph

■ Visa fee

■ SEVIS Fee (Form I-901) receipt. The online payment is available at: www.FMJfee.com. The receipt MUST be printed from the online method.

The consular office may require other documents or evidence to insure that you meet all the requirements of an F-1 student. Please cooperate fully with these requests.


Step two : Upon Arrival at the United States Port of Entry


■ Have your index fingers scanned for fingerprint purposes and a digital photograph taken

- Present your passport, visa, Form I-20, proof of SEVIS fee payment, Financial evidence and Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record) to the Immigration Inspector.

- The Immigration Inspector should stamp Form I-20 and Form I-94 and write “F-1” and “D/S”

* If there is some problem with your documents, you may be issued a 30-day admission and issued a Form I-515. In that case please come to talk to the International Student Advisor in WB-100 at UVU upon arrival.

 

Step three: Utah Valley University

● International Office Check-in

- Bring your passport, visa, Form I-20 & Form I-94

- Fill out biographical information including a local address

● TB Test – All students arriving from foreign countries except Canada who have been in the U.S. for less than six months are required to receive a tuberculosis (TB) skin test (Student Health Services Room #SC-221 is available for testing)

● Take ESL Compass Test or New Student Assessment Test at the Testing Center – needs to show the test score to the Academic Advisor

● Register for Your Classes – online registration is available

● Pay your tuition – at One Stop or Cashier’s Office

● Get UVU ID card – at College Connection (You can also purchase UTA bus pass.)

● Attend International Student Orientation Meeting
