UVU’s own Carol Acevedo was the first student from UVU to do an internship with the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
Carol came into Career Services and Student Employment in hopes that she might receive the necessary help to obtain an internship in Washington D.C. Marsha Haynes, Director of Internship Services and Student Employment, helped Carol to apply and interview for an internship in the office of Senator Bob Bennett. “After the interview, I also expressed great interest in an internship at the Library of Congress since I will be pursuing a graduate degree in library sciences,” Carol said. “Just a few days after that conversation, Senator Bennett’s office nominated me for an internship at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.”
Carol’s combined experience as Features Editor at the UVU Review Newspaper and as a reference librarian, along with her great academic record and community service, played a vital role in her being offered this internship.
During my junior year at Utah Valley University I completed a marketing internship with the Utah Flash, the NBA D-League team in Utah County. My internship duties mainly consisted of merchandising for the team. It was a great opportunity to be around professionals in a work environment that helped me understand the world of professional sports much better. When my internship was completed, it turned into a job! This never could have happened without my experience as an intern.

“My internship has stretched me to do things I didn’t think I could do . . . I have grown so much.”
This was the best summer of my life. My internship experience will really add to my resume.”
Now I am motivated to get into my major and finish schooling. I really want to learn more because of my internship experience.”
“Being able to spend time with other employees was so valuable to me. I asked about their jobs, education, and how they balance their family and career. I got a good idea of the stresses and joys of the profession.”
