Summary of activities
In 1992, Dr. Rusty Butler visited prominent Moscow Aerospace sites-- Khrunichev Enterprises and Sukhoi Design Bureau--as a guest of the Russian Government This event was a precursor to the foundation of the Utah-Russia Institute. Photos
Maintains a formal contract with TsAGI (Central Aero-Hydrodynamics Institute) in Russia working on management training, marketing, technology transfer, and defense conversion.
Brought the Russian-built Tupelov 204 commercial aircraft to Salt Lake City for its first ever exhibit in the West. Read Article
Successfully completed a NASA contract involving work with senior Russian aerospace and government executives at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base.
Joined Michigan State University in a project to link Russian engineers and technicians with their academic and corporate U.S. counterparts in a high speed CAD/CAM/CAE training project. The project has drawn the support of numerous large U.S. corporations and the Russian government.
Also worked with the U.S. Air Force, General Electric, Novell, Brigham Young University, Conoco, Exxon, Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory, LDS charities, and other U.S. entities on scientific, technological, educational, and humanitarian projects.
Hosted a conference of top U.S. experts on Russian policy in Park City, Utah, one of the sites of the 2002 Winter Games. Recommendations from the conference became important working documents on Capital Hill.
In conjunction with the Heritage Foundation, URI hosted a Washington Round Table on U.S. policy with U.S. Senate Foreign Appropriations Chairman Senator Mitch McConnell.
