Thursday, July 25th - Friday, July 26th
10:00 AM-2:00 PM (Check-in begins at 8:30 AM on Thursday)
UVU Sorensen (Student) Center
It is critical that you allow enough travel time to get to UVU, and from the parking lot into the buildings. It will likely be 15-20 min. walk to the Sorensen Student Center, due to the construction projects underway. We will have signs and hosts along the way to direct you, but please plan accordingly. There will be over 200 people who need to be checked in within a 45 minute time slot.
Take I-15 to University Parkway exit. Then follow signs to Utah Valley University. Go west at the roundabout. Follow College Drive to the UCCU Center, turn right and then park in the L14 lot which is the first lot on the left of the UCCU Center. (DOWNLOAD A MAP)
Lot L14 only unless you go to parking and get a visitor's parking pass.
A note of warning: If you park in another area, you will receive a ticket.
From L14, walk east to the LA Building (Liberal Arts Building). It is a pretty good walk to get to the Student Center Building but easy to find. Just enter LA and keep walking south through the new Science Building until you see the Hall of Flags. Turn left before entering the Hall of Flags. You will see the bookstore on the corner. Turn left at the front of the bookstore and go to the end of that hall. The Grand Ballroom will be on your right. We will have students holding signs to help you find it. Please look at the attached map for LA and SC buildings. This will make it easier to find.
All students are required to present a media release form upon checking in on Day 1. Make sure you bring it on Thursday. It should be signed by the parent or guardian of each attendee. It is likely there will be a media presence on Day 2 during the Chinese Village, so please assist us in obtaining this critical information.

This camp is intended to be an immersion-style learning experience. English will not be spoken during the classes and activities, and children will be encouraged to use what Chinese they know/ learn, to communicate. If your child is not an experienced Chinese speaker, help him/her be ready for a certain degree of initial frustration. Once accustomed to it, it becomes like a game for most children to try to communicate without using English. This will be a major adjustment for students who plan to enter Dual-Immersion programs in the Fall, so this is a good warm-up for that.
The students will be rotating through 5 different classes with cultural-centered themes. The sessions are 30 minutes long and it is preferred that children wait until the break to visit the restroom. An assistant will be on hand to chaperone restroom breaks as students change locations. Registered Adults will be in a separate class. Parents will not be going to classes with the children.
Children's Sack Lunches: 1/3 Turkey, 1/3 RB, 1/3 ham on wedge sandwich bread, granola bar, whole fruit, small treat, carton milks or carton juices.
Parents can buy lunch at Food Court (Costa Vida - Mexican, Subway - Sandwiches, Rockin Robbies – hamburgers, fries, shakes, or Valley View Room – hot meal)
Note: If your child has food allergies, please send a lunch with them.

Chinese instruction for adults will not be an immersion experience, although there will be speaking opportunities! You might want to bring something to take notes with, and a folder to keep handouts in.
Thank you for your support and interest, and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
