Minor in Languages

Pair Japanese with an additional language of your choosing! This minor can be earned in conjunction with any bachelor degree that UVU offers. It requires 9 credits of upper division course work in one language and 11 credits of intermediate and advanced level course work in another language (pre-requisites will vary from student to student).

Students who have lived in Japan at least 18 months can start JPNS 3050. After the completion with a C- or better, students can buy credits for JPNS 1010, JPNS 1020, JPNS 2010, and JPNS 202G. If students wish to start in a lower course, consult with the director of the program before registering for a course. Students who took Japanese in high school must consult the director of the program before registering for a course. We also have a 5-week study abroad program in Japan.

JPNS 251G   3 credits (introduction to Japanese culture and society, fulfills the Global and Intercultural Engagement requirement) This is taught in English. It doesn't require any knowledge of Japanese language and can be taken anytime.

Advanced Japanese courses

JPNS 3050    3 credits

JPNS 3200    3 credits (Business Japanese)

JPNS 351G   3 credits (Japanese culture and civilization, fulfills the Global and Intercultural Engagement requirement) This is taught in Japanese. The pre-requisite is JPNS 3050 or department approval.
