Get Real to Lead Without Fear

Session Description
Teaching the 21st century leaders to lead without fear, use their voices with character, get real results working together, do more with less and create synergy in relationships.

Bio
Matt Townsend is the founder and president of the Townsend Relationship Center, a relationship skills-building organization. He combines his talents as a coach, teacher and speaker to empower people and companies to connect and communicate more effectively. Through entertainment and humor, Matt teaches life-changing skills that help improve our most important relationships. His humorous speaking style helps him impact a wide range of people in various church and corporate events.

Matt trained for 9 years with the training industry leader Franklin Covey.

He earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in the area of Communicaiton as well as a second Masters degree in Human Development. he has recently earned his PhD in the field of Human Development.

Every Saturday moring form 11 to noon, Matt can be heard hosting his radio program, "The Matt Townsend Show," broadcast on KSL News Radio, where he talks about a variety of relationship topics. Matt is weekly contributor to KSL TV's morning show "Studio 5". Matt als has a weekday radio show on BYU radio on Sirius XM 143.

Matt's greatest love in life is his wife Mardi. They have been happily married for 22 years and have 6 children: 1 girl and 5 boys, ranging in ages from 8 to 19.

Session Description
Life is like a backpacking trip.  When things become difficult, and the trail gets steep, leaders emerge!  Learn tools of "servant leadership," which you can use to help others not only to navigate the steep trail, but reduce the unnecessary baggage that may weigh them down.

Bio
John Bytheway was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He is the author of more than 25 books, and enjoys participating in public school assemblies around the state.  He is currently a part-time instructor at the BYU Salt Lake Center.

Latinos in Action: Leading through Service

Session Description
With Latinos in Action (LIA), students can be a significant resource at the secondary and elementary levels as leaders and trailblazers.  LIA students strengthen their cognitive, social and linguistic skills and learn leadership through service. This program helps students in primary, secondary and postsecondary education.

Bio
Jose was an Assistant Principal for 13 years. He received his PhD from Brigham Young University. He has helped 113 Junior High and High schools begin LIA in multiple states. He is currently the Director of Diversity for Alpine School District and CEO of Latinos in Action.

Solid Boundaries, Solid Leaders. Toxic Relationship Prevention (Centre Stage)

Session Description
Do you give your power away? Do you find yourself feeling intimidated, nervous, walking on egg shells or insecure around certain people. If you have ever felt these emotions, you are giving your power away and not allowing the leader in you to thrive. Jessie teaches us how to own our power, to set healthy boundaries, to watch for red flags of abuse and toxicity and to set ourselves free from social pressures in order to ignite the natural leader inside us.

Bio
Jessie Funk holds a leadership certification from the University of Notre Dame, is a certified life-coach and has shared her inspiring message of the power of confidence and leadership with thousands of people from across the United States and even into Europe, Canada and Africa.  She has released five solo albums, published five books, has toured 36 states with the Broadway musical “Footloose,” has performed for former Vice-President Dick Cheney, as an opening act for Donny Osmond, Josh Grayson and Billy Dean, Kenny Loggins, Collin Raye and she has toured with Broadway sensation Maureen McGovern. She has also been hired for hundreds of recording sessions as a studio vocalist including songs heard on TV’s “America’s Got Talent” and “The Biggest Loser.”  Jessie has also been a professional speaker for ten years and that passion led her to start a national non-profit organization called "The Ivy Girl Academy," a confidence and leadership training program for teen girls. Jessie's favorite role in life is that of adored wife and mother to three.

This session is about genuine, or authentic, leadership. Genuine, effective leadership is possible only when you first step on the pathway to self-awareness in order to understand and apply the principles of personal leadership in your life. Authentic leadership is about learning to lead the self, first.

Bio
Lisa Lambert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Student Leadership and Success Studies at UVU, and she is the UVU Engaged Learning Faculty Fellow for 2013-2014. Lambert teaches CLSS 1200, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People; and CLSS 2200/2300 Leadership Mentoring I & II; CLSS 1000, College Success Studies; CLSS 1100, Stress Management/Hardiness. Professor Lambert’s scholarship is focused on engaged and transformational learning, higher education community engagement, personal leadership, and student peer mentoring. Her background includes extensive experience in academic administration, successful transitioning of students to college; critical andragogy; and critically reflective teaching as practice.

Become the type of leader who searches out struggling peers and makes the difference in creating a respectful and caring climate at your schools. You will leave energized and determined to be the person who can make a difference. Rick lost his mother in a traffic accident at age fifteen. He will discuss the challenges that face many of your peers today. Being an adoptee, he was recently reunited with his biological family. Rick will take you on a true-life fairytale filled with joy and tragedy. Come join Rick for an impactful seminar that will have you laughing, crying, and pondering the more important relationships in life.

Bio
Rick Larsen, along with his wife ChaRee and their six children reside in Northern Utah. Rick is the Principal of a Rich High School and teaches UVU’s MGMT 1250 course, “Principles of Leadership.” He is the wrestling coach and a wildlands firefighter. He is a published author of Mother, Are You Out There? and Earning an “A” with Kids.

A leader’s attitude is perhaps the greatest tool that influences the performance of a group. This animated presentation addresses six outcomes that will occur that directly relates to the type of attitude reflected by the leader of the organization and the influence a leader’s attitude will have upon the group of followers.

Bio
David Litchford is a Professor of Communication at UVU. He has been at the university for 34 years and has been recognized by his students, peers, and the community on a local and national level with a variety of teaching and training awards. He presents around 100 presentations annually to a wide variety of groups on topics ranging from leadership to motivation to the human factor of the organization. He is known for his motivational and energetic style of delivering a presentation and engaging the audience.

Trying to get a date? Looking for a job? Applying to college? Having the Power of Persuasion could make the difference between accomplishing your goals and getting shut down. This workshop will teach you the tools and characteristics you need to be persuasive, with real- world application.

Bio
Christina Roach is always on the go. She left her farm life in Palmyra, UT, to attend BYU. She studied abroad in Mexico, and fulfilled a full-time LDS mission in Mississippi.  After graduating BYU with degrees in English and Music, Christina moved again to attend one of the nation's top law schools at the University of Virginia. She interned with a litigation firm in Salt Lake City, then with a large transactional  practice in Houston, TX. Having now graduated from law school, and passed the bar exam, she has moved back home and is getting involved  with the professional  circles here in the startup and financial investment sectors. In her spare time, Christina enjoys traveling, playing sports, and horseback riding.
