Working with Your Team LeaderYour Team Leader is your primary liaison between you and the students in your team. As a CAL Mentor, you should actively work with your Team Leader in setting up monthly meetings. Your team should also be proactive in providing discussion topics for each of your Mentor Meetings. Some students may choose to learn more about personal development and others might choose to learn more about intricate business details. |
Mentor MeetingsThe Leadership Certification Program requires that each of your students attend a minimum of three mentor meetings per semester. Ideally, you will meet with your team once a month in September, October, November, January, February, and March. Meetings should last roughly an hour. We encourage you to “think outside the box” for your meetings. You may want to schedule a dinner with your students at your favorite restaurant, invite your mentees to shadow you at your work, create mock business situations, provide opportunities to network with other professionals, invite mentees to participate in your favorite hobby or leisure activity, or offer internships. |
Remembering Your Role as a MentorProfessional leadership development and student success are the ultimate goals for each of the students that you mentor. As such, it is your charge to align each mentoring meeting to sustain and achieve these goals by discussing topics related to the Leadership Certification Program. This can be accomplished as you discuss leadership in regards to your field of professional expertise.

Working with the CAL Office StaffThe Student Coordinator will be your primary contact person in the CAL office. He will work closely with you in regards to the successful relationship between you and your student team, as well as with the CAL Director to maintain the mission of the CAL Mentoring Program. He will also carefully maintain the CAL Mentor database, which includes keeping updated contact information and bio of each mentor. |
