Math + Service = Success

Join a math class where your entire objective is NOT to learn math. In this Learning Community you will focus on preparing to help struggling elementary school students with their math, as you earn class credit while gaining this powerful experience for providing this valuable service in the community. You will learn how to help these kids learn math through techniques taught in this class. As you apply these techniques to your math assignments you will become a much more effective tutor for these children, and YOU just might learn some math along the way.

Art Rocks

Art History I (ARTH 2710) covers the evolution of art from prehistory through the Gothic period. Introduction to Geology (GEO 1010) covers the structure of the earth, active earth processes, and the evolution of the earth from deep prehistory through today. The ARTH 2710/GEO 1010 learning community will explore the surprising overlap between art and science. Students in this learning community will learn how artists through the ages have taken advantage of the available geologic materials to create their art, and how artists have been inspired by natural scenery and geologic events. Students will also learn about the art, the aesthetics, inherent in earth’s geologic landforms. Both of these classes count as general education distribution requirements for most majors at UVU.

Developing the Medical Mind

The combination of CLSS 1000 and PSY 1010 provides pre-health students the opportunity to develop their own abilities to ensure success, but also to understand the psychology of the individual and the impact it has on the health of a patient. As healthcare demands greater emphasis on the mental and emotional well-being of both patients and the professionals who serve them, it becomes vital that future physicians develop skills to adapt to this new philosophy.
