UVU Library Information Commons
The Information Commons, located on the 1st floor of the Library, contains over 100 computers and five printers patrons can use to complete their school work. The following details the types of computers available.
There are 128 Windows 7 based PCs. These computers have the following software installed:
- Windows 7
- Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- OpenOffice 3.1
- Internet Explorer 8
- Mozilla Firefox 3.6
- Nero 7 Essentials
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 9
- VLC Media Player
- Windows Media Player
- Gimpshop image editing software

There are also 15 special purpose Multimedia Computers.
There are eight MacPro computers with Mac OSX with:
- Final Cut Studio 3
- Adobe CS4 Design Premium with Flash, Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, Dreamweaver
- Adobe CS5 Design Premium with Flash, Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, Dreamweaver
- MS Office 2008 for Mac
- Apple iWork 09
- MS Office 2008 for Mac
- Apple iWork 09
The MacPros have both Apple OS X and Windows XP. The Windows XP partition contains all the same as the rest of the computers in the InfoCommons, but none of the special purpose software.
Applications like Final Cut Studio and the Adobe Suites are very complex and are available for patrons who know how to use them. UVU offers many courses that teach the use of these programs. The Library does not offer support for these programs.
Basic help is available for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and printing at the Reference Desk.
The other computers seven multimedia computers have the following hardware and software installed.- Three Windows XP computers
- Two Epson V500 flatbed scanners with Epson scanning software
- One Fuji fi6140 Document scanner with Fiji scanning software
The scanners only offer scanning capability; no OCR software is installed on the any of these computers. Basic help with scanning is available from the Reference desk.
NOTE: Because of the specialty software/equipment, patrons who need to use them have priority.
