The Information Commons, located on the 1st floor of the Library, contains over 100 computers and five printers patrons to use. Most are standard Windows XP PCs, there are also specialized computers that can edit videos and scan. The following details the types of computers available.

There are 92 Windows XP based PCs. These computers have installed the following software:

• Windows XP SP3
• Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
• Open Office 3.1
• Internet Explorer 7
• Mozilla Firefox 3.5
• Nero 7 Essentials
• Adobe Acrobat Reader 9
• VLC Media Player
• Windows Media Player
• Gimpshop image editing software.

There are also 15 multimedia computers. Eight are Mac Pros; three have GIS software installed on them and four have scanners attached to them. These are located behind the reference desk.

The Mac Pros have both Apple OS X and Windows XP. The Windows XP partition contains all the same software listed above, the Mac side has the following:

• Final Cut Studio 2
• Adobe CS3 Production Premium
• MS Office 2008 for Mac
• Digital Video Deck – connected to the Mac Pro via Firewire
• DVD Player – connected to the Mac Pro via the Digital Video Deck

Some of the software installed on these computers are very complex and are available for patrons who know how to use them. UVU offers many courses that teach these programs. The Library does not offer any training.

The other computers seven multimedia computers have the following hardware and software installed.

• Three Windows XP computers with ArcView 9.1 GIS installed
• Four Windows XP computers
  • Three Epson V500 flatbed scanners with Epson scanning software
  • One Fuji fi6140 Document scanner with Fiji scanning software

The scanners only offer scanning capability; no OCR software is installed on the any of these computers.
