Library Instruction and Computer Lab Reservation

Library instruction labs may be requested by faculty or staff and must be requested at least 5 days in advance. Upon completing a reservation, you will receive an email indicating if the library is able to accommodate your request.

If you would like a librarian to teach your class, please read the instruction menu below for information about what will be covered in your session. Please let us know if there are particular topics or research tools that you would like us to cover.

Library instruction is most successful when the students come to the session prepared with topics for their assignment.

The following computer labs are available for library instruction or other class use:

• LI 205 - 20 iMacs with both Mac OS and Windows XP
• LI 206 - 24 PCs with Windows XP
• LI 207 - 30 PCS with Windows XP

Rooms 206 and 207 may also be combined by opening a moveable wall to accommodate larger classes. Both rooms would need to be scheduled. Before you schedule a room, please read our building use policy.

Our librarians can offer instruction on many different topics. Please let us know if you would like us to add any of the following options to our class presentation. 

Please be aware that requesting more than 45 minutes of material will require you to schedule your class for another library visit.

• Creating a Topic (15 minutes): Guides students to sources for topic ideas, and help on expanding and refining topic ideas.

• Introduction to Article Databases (20 minutes): An introduction to using databases to locate articles, and how to locate article full text. Add ten minutes for practice time, if desired.

• Introduction to the Library Catalog (10 minutes): An introduction to using finding books in the Library Catalog. Add ten minutes for practice time, if desired.

• Evaluating Sources (15 minutes): Evaluating information using the CRAAP test.

• Citing Sources and Information Ethics (10 minutes): Introduces students to citation and where to go for citation help, and covers plagiarism.

• Library Services (10 minutes): An introduction to the many services the Library offers for students, including interlibrary loan, research help (reference), book requests, and more.

Combinations

• ENGL 2020/2010 Presentation (45 minutes): Introduces students to creating and modifying topics, searching for books and articles, evaluating and citing sources, and where to get research help. Class session includes practice time.

• ENGL 1010 Presentation (45 minutes): Introduces students to finding books and articles and evaluating sources, and where to get research help. Class session includes practice time.
