Library Instruction

Library instruction is most successful when the students come to the session prepared with topics for their assignment. Please let us know if there are particular topics or research tools that you would like us to cover. It is beneficial for writing students to complete the Library's online Library Research Tutorial before attending the instruction session. The tutorial will introduce your students to library research concepts and help prepare them for their library visit.

Standard ENGL 1010 and 2020/2010 presentations include the following topics:

  • Creating a research question (ENGL 1010 only)
  • Using OneSearch to find articles & books
  • Evaluating sources (ENGL 2010/2020 only)
  • Contacting a librarian for help
  • Practice time

Depending on the needs of your students, we can provide more detailed instruction on these topics:

  • Finding topic ideas
  • Introduction to subject specific article databases
  • Introduction to the Library catalog
  • Evaluating sources
  • Citing sources and plagiarism
  • Introduction to Library services
  • Schedule Library Instruction
