Utah Valley University is located in Orem, Utah, and is one of the largest institutions of higher learning in Utah with nearly 33,000 students. UVU's evolution is unique in the history of American higher education. The institution began as a vocational school during World War II, and in the seven decades since has evolved into a technical school, community college, state college and, finally, a comprehensive regional teaching university. UVU provides broad access to quality higher education and offers programs ranging from career training to high-demand graduate degrees, with emphasis on undergraduate education and engaged learning. UVU holds the Carnegie Foundation's "community engaged" classification, is an All-Steinway School, and was the first institution to make the leap directly from junior college to full NCAA Division I athletics.
