The Utah Valley University Spectrum organization (LGBTQI/Straight Alliance) serves to enhance the social well being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Polyamorous, Pansexual, Asexual and Straight Ally individuals at Utah Valley University and its surrounding areas, by providing awareness for LGBTQI issues, involvement with community service to help LGBTQI individuals, promoting equality in our local environment, providing physical and mental help information for LGBTQI individuals, and by providing a social settings for LGBTQI individuals where they can feel safe. Through education, outreach, awareness, and social opportunities, we aim not only to empower all students, but also to celebrate and embrace everyone within our community.
MISSION Unidos Saldremos Adelante Leadership Program is design for students who want to challenge their commitment to the Latino community by actively engaging themselves in activities that; inspire the youth, serve the community, seek to understand political views, strengthen their cultural presence on campus, and make a commitment in transforming themselves into assertive leaders and positive role models. -VISION- The USALP vision is to educate and prepare our Latino Leaders to excel beyond expectations and represent themselves, their families, their mentees, peers, community, and university. USALP model is composed of four interrelated components that encourage students to, Lead, Mentor, Inspire, and Connect. LEAD USA tu Latino leaders will take part in a series of workshops that will enlighten and challenge their leadership style as well as their cultural and political awareness. They will explore one’s leadership style and capacities, and develop a personal development and leadership plan. MENTOR USA tu corazon Latino leaders will mentor and build an educational and nurturing relationship with junior high and/or high school students to empower them to make positive life choices. Mentors will be trained on how to be effective mentors and will engage in organized activities in order to foster and grow a trusting relationship between mentor and mentee. INSPIRE USA tu Latino leaders inspire and motivate high school and junior high school students by sharing their story of perseverance and goal setting. Latino leaders will support future college students by assisting prospective students with college admissions and scholarship applications. Leaders will help plan and manage conferences and activities for the Latino Youth and incoming first year Latino college students. Will plan and direct show production geared towards the youth where they will showcase at assemblies. Production will consist on motivational speakers and short skits that will that a positive message with a twist of comedy. CONNECT USA tu cultura Latino leaders will create a connection to their community, university, and their peers by attending various cultural events and taking action in community events. Connecting with their peers will also help students gain a family at the university that they would otherwise not have. This connection fosters retention that will lead them into becoming university graduates.
