Woodbury Invitational 2007 August 10, 2007 - September 28, 2007 "It is perhaps a truth that visual literacy (that is, public interaction with and familiarity of current art, arts events and works), is a measure of the degree to which our culture is positively sustained through successive generations. In an effort to promote the transmission of important ideas and feelings as indicators of our times we encourage personal exposure to significant works of contemporary original art,” states museum director Marcus Vincent. Every year brings a new mix of styles and mediums. The five artists showcased in this years exhibit are Gary Barton, Jackie Brethen, Catherine Downing, John O’Connell and Bruce Robertson. “Each year we invite an array of accomplished regional and national artist to provide a glimpse of their current exploration of art,” Vincent said. “Subject mater, style and purpose vary widely and we seek the best efforts in any of these directions. It is hoped that exposure to works of excellence will elevate understanding of current issues and be an enriching experience for our community and university.” Marcus Vincent, Director
In addition to the Invitational the museum has opened the exhibit Selections. This exhibit is a mixture of works from the museum’s permanent collection, as well as works on loan to the school. Artists in this exhibit include James Christensen, Aaron Siskind, Jeanne Clarke, the Hildebrandt brothers, and Luis Jimenez. |
