EXHIBIT PROPOSALS
The UVU Woodbury Art Museum presents exhibitions of professional quality art in support of its educational mission and for the enlightenment of the community at large. The museum accepts proposals by established artists, solo or group proposals, emerging artists, and other professional arts/humanities organizations for exhibitions in traditional and contemporary media and styles. Experimental work, multimedia work and installations are encouraged within the parameters of the museum’s mission and physical limitations.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
All application materials must arrive at the museum before the published deadlines. Late applications may be considered for the next deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Application materials will be returned only if accompanied with a self-addressed stamped envelope (or packaging) with sufficient postage.
Each application must include the following:
1. A one page curator’s statement describing the exhibit concept. Include an explanation of how the pieces in your exhibition fulfill the vision of the exhibit. Where there are large 3D pieces, installation or multimedia works, prepare a diagram indicating potential exhibition layout.
2. A resume (indicating exhibit record) for each artist included in the exhibit proposal; Personal contact information (address, phone, email).
3. An artist’s statement from each artist with respect to the relationship of his/her particular work to the proposed exhibition.
4. A sheet of 20 slides per artist for solo shows or group shows of less than 5 artists, a minimum of 5-10 slides per artist for group shows of 5 or more artists. Label each slide with: artist name, title of piece, media, year of completion, dimensions; indicate top of slide; mark side “E” if actual work is to be exhibited or “R” for representative but not intended for the proposed exhibition. Where possible, a majority of the slides should represent works for actual exhibition. Digital images may also be submitted in JPEG format on a CD. Images must be clearly identifiable, and a printed image list must be included. Inability to access images on the CD using standard PC or Mac computers is not the responsibility of the museum. Failure of CD images to load properly may result in rejection of the application.
5. Return packaging and postage if return of the materials is desired.
APPLICATION DEADLINES MARCH 15th and SEPTEMBER 15th
Exhibit Proposal Applications are reviewed twice annually. Exhibit proposals are selected a year to two years in advance and are coordinated with the space needs and programming of other museum exhibits and functions. The museum director, curator, and exhibition review committee (comprised of visual and literary artists and administrators) will review the exhibition proposals. Accepted proposals will be invited to schedule an exhibition at the discretion of the museum director. A written and signed contract authored by the museum will define the exhibit particulars (exhibit dates, insurance, commission, transportation, etc.) before the exhibit is confirmed in the museum exhibition schedule.
