Adjunct Instructor of Cello
Nicole
Pinnell Jackson has won prizes in national and international competitions and
performed in major
concert halls in the United States, Europe, and former
Soviet Union. She studied primarily with
Peter
Howard, duo partner to Pinchas Zukerman, and received additional training
from Yo-Yo Ma, Colin Carr,
Truls Mork, Pincas Zukerman, Leonard Slatkin, and
Bernard Greenhouse. College studies
began at age
14 as assistant principal cellist at the University of Wisconsin. Among her accomplishments at the
University
of Wisconsin include touring with the top string quartet and performing in
Carnegie Hall.
Her Bachelor or Music
degree in Cello Performance and Pedagogy was awarded with honors from Arizona
State University.
Nicole
has been featured as a soloist in multiple CDs including Film da Fronteira with Zone Azul, Sisters at
Play with Claudine Bigelow, Wings of Song with Jenny Oaks, Sketches
with Emmy Award winning composer
Kurt Bestor, and a Pearl Award winning CD with
Jenny Jordan Frogley. A CD for EMI records,
due to be
released in 2011, is comprised of classical cello works with virtuoso
pianist Jed Moss.
Nicole
has served as a cellist in the Utah Symphony and principal cellist for the
Ballet West Orchestra.
Nicole is a
frequent contributor to chamber music in Utah.
In addition to performing frequently on
chamber music programs, she was
a founding member of the Escalante Piano Trio with Donna Fairbanks
and Jeffrey
Shumway. She plays regularly for
NonStop, Soularium, Platinum, Counterpoint, Rosewood,
LDS Motion Picture
Studios and Edwin Merril Productions, which produce music for film scores, CDs,
commercials and radio.
Nicole
has been teaching cello since 1984.
Currently she teaches at Utah Valley University in addition to
maintaining a private studio in Salt
Lake City. She has also been on the
faculty of the Waterford School,
Brigham Young University, and Weber State
University. She served as cello coordinator for the Suzuki
Association of Utah
for several years. Student achievements
include competition prizes, scholarship awards,
CD publications, and successful
professional careers.
Nicole’s
diverse interests and talent have brought her on stage with Joshua Bell, Joseph
Silverstein, Mark
O’Connor, Led Zeplin, Quincy Jones, Keith Lockhart, Jim Brickman,
Yo-Yo Ma, Air Supply, Donny Osmond,
David Archuletta, and Jeff Hamilton, to
name a few. On film she appeared in The Assignment as well as
documentaries
for Josh Groban, Disney musicians, Warner Brothers, and the American Soviet
Youth Orchestra.
