Cherilyn Worthen is the coordinator of Choral Music Education at Utah Valley University and director of the UVU Women's Choir and Concert Choir. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Brigham Young University. For twelve years Ms. Worthen directed the choral music program at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah, where she also served as a Student Dean and Music Department Chair. In 2006, Ms. Worthen was appointed as the Director of the Choir School for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, where she oversees the education of newly appointed singers and inservice programs for current choir members. She has conducted the BYU Women’s Chorus and Concert Choir, the Legacy Chorale, and the Deseret Chamber Singers. As a singer, she has performed with Canti con brio, BYU Singers, the Deseret Chamber Singers, the Temple Square Chorale, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She is an active member of ACDA, MENC, NCCO, Chorus America, and has served on the choral committee for the Utah Music Educator’s Association. Ms. Worthen is pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Utah. Her research interests include choral music curriculum and educational programs for adult volunteer singers. In June 2012, she will present research at an ACDA symposium in Washington, DC.
