Unsubscribing from Emergency Text Messages

If you are getting text messages from UVU from the Opt-In system (emergency from Police, Presidential from President, or Student from Student Government) and want to unsubscribe, then this page is for you!

Why am I getting text messages?

Because you or someone else entered your number into the OPT-IN system under a UVU ID number and Opted in to receive these messages.

Information about Opt-In

Opt-In is used sparingly for the benefit of those that OPT-IN.  You should only get a text if you have signed up for the service!

  • Opt-In Emergency is only used in an emergency situation or for testing that system (no more than twice a semester).  This is for your safety and the safety of the University community.
  • Opt-In Presidential is only used in a President's level situation for the president to communicate a message campus wide that he feels is very important.
  • Opt-In Student is only used by Student Government for activities and notifications that they feel are high priorities.

Delivery of the text messages is based on your text messaging provider. Some providers will periodically drop, delay or block these messages. We currently are aware of Verizon delaying messages by hours. We cannot control that delay. It is done by Verizon and we have contacted them and they are currently not willing to correct this problem.  Please contact them if this is a problem for you. We suggest turning off your phone at night so as not to disturb your sleep when these delays happen.
We have had reports of multiple messages being received. We are investigating that and hope to find out what is happening there. If you were one of those, please contact us at it@uvu.edu if you are willing to work with us.

TO UNSUBSCRIBE

If you would like to unsubscribe to PART or ALL of this system:
  1. Go to the Opt-in/Opt-out page in UVLink.
    1. Log in to UVLink.
    2. Click on "Personal Information Menu" in either the "Student" or "Employee" tab.
    3. Click "Opt-in to Text Messaging."
  2. Select Opt-In level that you want to be in (will remove other levels).
  3. Scroll down and click on the I Accept button.
  4. If you want to be removed completely from the system - scroll to the bottom of the page and select DELETE.
