How to understand your writing assignment!
Sometimes a teacher's assignment sheet may be a little confusing, or you think you understand the assigment but then end up getting a bad grade for "missing the point." These few tips will hopefully help you get started in the right direction.
1. Read through the entire promt carefully.
2. Read through it again and underline or highlight important requirements such as the due date, length of the paper, or format specifications.
3. Ask yourself these important questions:
What is the purpose of this assignment? Who is my audience? What specific things do I
have to include in my paper? What will my professor be looking for?

4. Finally, if the prompt just seems too complicated, then go ask your teacher! He/she can probably explain it to you in person with more detail and in a simpler way. Don't be afraid to seek help.
