Current Position Openings
The UVU Peer Tutoring program has openings for the following positions:
- Peer Tutors for Drop-in Lab
- Supplemental Instruction Leaders
See below for specific openings; we will soon begin accepting applications and hiring for the 2008-2009 academic year.
DROP-IN TUTOR: (UVJobBoard #4113)
Salary: $9/hour
Openings are available for accounting, business management, biology, organic chemistry, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, physics, and other sciences.
Preference for the drop-in tutor positions will be given to students who can tutor a combination of these courses; for example, ACC2010/2020, MGMT2300, MGMT2310, and MGMT2340, or BIOL1010, BIOL1610, CHEM1010, CHEM1110, and CHEM1210/1220, etc,
Summary of Duties (Peer Tutor):
Under the direction of the Peer Tutor Coordinator, schedule working hours (min. 10 hours per week); tutors will assist students in understanding specific course concepts through accepted tutoring methods and the integration of study skills and strategies; provide leadership for peers by being a "model student"; conduct class visits at the beginning of each semester to tell students about tutoring services; conduct a program evaluation; participate in all tutor training activities and work toward CRLA certification.Peer Tutors must complete Level I, Regular certification during their first semester of employment to continue their employment.
SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION LEADER: (UVJobBoard #4127)

Summary of Duties (SI Leader):
Under the direction of the Tutoring Coordinator, regularly attend one section of the course, take class notes and read all assigned materials (text and supplementary); when appropriate, work homework; schedule and conduct at least three tutorial sessions (50 minutes in length) each week to assist students in understanding specific course concepts through accepted tutoring methods and the integration of study skills and learning strategies; provide leadership for peers by being a "model student"; meet at least once weekly with instructor of course; conduct a program evaluation; participate in all tutor training activities and work toward CRLA certification.SI Leadersmust complete Level I, Regular certification during their first semester of employment to continue their employment.
HOW DO I APPLY:
Applicants for all positions MUST complete and submit a UVU online employment application(http://www.uvu.edu/cse/) as well as two (2) letters of reference from a UVU faculty member in the area(s) they wish to tutor. For example, if an applicant can tutor both biology and chemistry, they would need one (1) letter from the Biology Dept. and one (1) letter from the Chemistry Dept. Letters can be sent to Regie Holdaway by email directly from the faculty member.
Applicants must be current UVU students. They must have completed the course(s) they wish to tutor at UVU with a grade of B+ or better and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative gpa. They must also be available on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. for mandatory tutor training meetings. Peer tutors will work approximately10-20 hours per week; however, available work hours for drop-in tutors will be based on scheduling needs.
Applicants must meet the following knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements:
- ability to speak, understand, and explain in the English language,
- interpersonal, human relations, and problem-solving skills
- supervisory skills
- ability to follow oral/written procedures and instructions
