Policy and Procedure Development Tools

UVU Court Yard

By establishing specific requirements for all members of the institutional community, policies connect the institution's mission to:

  • individual conduct
  • institutional compliance with laws and regulations
  • mitigation of institutional risk, and
  • enhanced institutional productivity and efficiency.

It is essential that policies be principle-based, well written, legally compliant, effectively communicated, and accessible to all members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and the general public.

The following tools are available to assist in policy development:

  • Policy Template - the framework in which policies should be built and/or modified.
  • Policies and Procedures Writing Guide - information to guide the policy steward in maintaining consistency in the approved writing style of the institution's policy development and revision process.
  • Glossary of Policy Terms - a dictionary of words or phrases commonly used in the institution's Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • The Online Policy System (TOPS) © 2007 UVU - the institution's official online policy management and tracking system where policies under institutional review are recorded and where individuals may submit their comments and/or recommendations about a proposed policy.
