Presidential Initiatives

Emergency Preparedness

In light of recent campus emergencies, both natural and man-made, that have occurred across the nation, the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee (E-PAC) was created in March 2008. The EPAC is charged to do the following:

  • Update the current emergency preparedness, disaster response and recovery plan and other related materials necessary for emergency preparedness
  • Create a communication plan as part of the overall response and recovery plan
  • Create other materials (brochures, presentations, etc.) that may be needed to promote and teach emergency preparedness across campus
  • Recommend to the President campus personnel to be a member or lead of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
  • Provide emergency preparedness training on an ongoing basis
  • Recommend measures, programs, training, or other to build a disaster-resistant university for Utah Valley University

Engaged Learning and Community Engagement

The UVU Engagement initiative lies at the core of the university's mission and is centered on producing "engaged learning through community" by focusing on the three P's: People, Place, and Profession. Our model describes the outcomes desired for our students, faculty and staff: to be "people of integrity," "stewards of place," and "professionally competent."  When all three outcomes are achieved "engaged learning through community" is the result.

For more information about Engaged Learning and Community Engagement at UVU please go to the Center for Engaged Learning.

Planning, Budgeting, and Accountability (PBA)

The PBA process was instituted in 2003 by President William A. Sederburg to help the institution align its resources and activities for the fulfillment of the university's strategic directions and overall mission. The PBA process plays a central role in connecting strategic and operational planning with budgeting and accountability through all levels of the institution on an annual basis. This process reflects UVU's commitment to informed decision-making, transparency, collaboration, and engagement.

For more information about the PBA process please go to the PBA website.

Sustainability: "Go Green" Campaign

In an effort to be good "stewards of an...interdependent community" (see UVU Mission) and promote environmental sustainability across campus, the Sustainability Committee was created in September 2008. The Sustainability Committee is responsible for reviewing sustainability issues and suggesting new programs or practices to the President's Council which make economic and environmental sense for the campus to enhance our campus operations and increase the "green" nature of UVU.

The Utah Valley Senior Executive Leadership Forum (UVSELF) provides an intellectually stimulating career exploration and discovery experience for faculty and staff who have demonstrated exceptional promise in contributing to excellence at Utah Valley University. Forum participants, or fellows, engage in wide ranging discussions and learning activities related to critical issues and opportunities that arise in leading and managing the higher education enterprise.

The program is 12 months in length and includes a two-day retreat and eight monthly seminars, as well as other experiences to complement the Forum. A cohort of 10 to 12 fellows are selected through an application process every March.
