Interests: My primary interests are in fluvial geomorphology and river hydrology, with an emphasis on water resources management and human-environment interactions in river systems. I investigate human-environment interactions and new remote sensing and GIS methods of studying the riverscape, particularly for use in environmental management.

Current and Upcoming Projects:

  • Assessing the distribution and geomorphic impacts of small dams in Oregon
  • Mapping Land use/Land cover and channel change in the riparian zone of the Jordan river, Utah
  • Quantifying the sediment distribution and mobility on the lower Provo river, Utah
  • Evaluating geomorphic changes on Pleasant Creek, Capitol Reef National Park, Utah
  • Using GIS to map the potential for water-based service learning projects in Irapuato, Mexico

If you are interested in research related to rivers, water resources, or human-environment interactions and/or would like to use GIS or remote sensing techniques, please contact me regarding opportunities.

I teach a variety of Geography and Geology courses, including GIS, Intro to Geology, Geography, Hydrology, and Geomorphology. I have also been involved in service learning in Mexico with UVU students and research, service learning, and study abroad in southern Africa through ESVANNA and the University of Virginia.

My courses at UVU are administered via CANVAS, which can be accessed using this link:    https://learn-uvu.uen.org/
