Participate in Intermountain Healthcare’s Free Cancer Screening Clinics

2008 to present

Perform Pap Smears and clinical breast exams at 5 clinics in Salt Lake County at no charge to the women coming to the clinics. Refer for free mammograms where appropriate. Do health teaching to decrease the risk of cancer to participants. These are low income women. Average 4 to 5 clinics per year.

Preceptored Nurse Midwifery Students

Mentored students from the University of Utah, Georgetown University, and Frontier School of Midwifery as they were obtaining their Master’s or Doctor of Nursing Practice as Certified Nurse Midwives

Assisted with the 2nd Annual Nursing Research Conference at UVU

Assisted students coming to the conference as well as faculty who organized the conference to help make it a success. Theme: Using Nursing Research to care for patients more humanely.

Member and then Chairman of the Utah State Board of Midwifery

Review disciplinary proceedings for Nurse Midwives in the state of Utah. Work with the Department of Professional Licensing to determine and clarify requirements for licensure in Utah for Nurse Midwives. Lead the board in implementing recommendations that remove practice barriers to Nurse Midwives in Utah.

Volunteer as the Wolf Cub Scout Den Leader for the Boy Scouts of America

Meet weekly with 8 year old boys and plan activities that strengthen the values of scouting and help the boys become responsible members of the community with emphasis on promoting good health habits and personal safety including supervising trips to the Fire and Police Departments. Attend summer day camp where firearm safety, water safety, and archery safety are taught. Supervise service projects throughout the year.
