Career Counselor/Manager, Education
Working with the public seems to be the dominant thread weaving through my professional life. I enjoy meeting people form all walks of life and learning what makes them excited about life. After my second year at Brigham Young University, I was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, but decided join the Navy. I was trained to be a Personnel man, where I worked at keeping enlisted mens' records current and complete. This assignment took me to the Philippine Islands, Midway Island, and Whidbey Island, Washington. Upon completing my tour of duty, I returned to BYU, where I graduated in Business Management with an emphasis in Marketing.
Employment experiences have taken me from Division Coordinator for a multi-million dollar herbal company, to a steel building company's Human Resource Manager, to becoming licensed in health, life, and property/ casualty and variable insurance. I have worked in higher education for over seventeen years at Utah Valley State College and also have an additional eleven years of professional experience in private industry including sales and human resources. I am presently associated with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Western Association of Colleges and Employers (WACE), Rocky Mountain Association of Colleges and Employers (RMACE), Utah Association of Employment in Education (UAEE), and the American Association of Employment in Education (AAEE). I have served on various committees in these organizations.
