Sam is in his 15th year at UVSC. He was hired at UVSC to be an Intramural Supervisor in Fall of 1990. After one year he became the Assistant Director until July of 1993 when he was hired on a full-time basis to be the Intramural Director. In addition to his duties as Director (at the time), Sam taught P.E. classes and was the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. In 1998, Sam assumed the responsibilites as Head Women's Volleyball after the retirement of Head Coach Lori Richards. This year Sam is completing his 6th year as Head Coach, 4 of those years in the NJCAA and 2 in the NCAA. Sam continues to teach the volleyball coaching class. He is in his 10th year as the PE Services Director. Sam begun college at BYU-Hawaii in 1981 prior to serving a church mission from 1982-84. He continued his education at BYU. While at BYU, Sam playe four years on the men's volleyball club team where he helped lead the Cougars to three National Collegiate Championships. It was after his playing years that Sam satarted his coaching experience as a assistant to Carl McGown for the men's BYU intercollegiate volleyball team. Sam graduated with a bachelors degree in Sports Medicine from BYU in 1988. He is married to Lori Jorgensen and they have 5 children, Sam, Brad, Devri, Andrew and Darci.
