Karen Olsen serves the University President as his executive secretary and as the secretary to the UVU Board of Trustees.  Her main responsibilities are to manage the affairs of the office of the President, including initiating and coordinating correspondence and communication; providing administrative support for executive level university meetings; and coordinating special events and projects.  She manages the office budgets; responds to inquiries and comments from internal and external constituents, and acts as liaison for the President’s Office.  

 

Karen serves as secretary to the Board of Trustees and as liaison between the university and Board of Trustees.  She assists the President and Board of Trustees Chair with development and preparation of Board and Committee materials, provides clerical support to the Board, administers the budget, coordinates Trustee training, and provides information on policies and procedures of the Board.  She is a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges.

Karen provides administrative support and participates in President's Staff, President's Cabinet, President’s Council and President's Executive Leadership Council. She is a member of the Commencement Committee, Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee, Events Communication Committee and Scholarship Ball Planning Committee. She has served in leadership positions for the Professional Association of Campus Employees, and is in charge of the annual University Awards of Excellence program.

Karen received an AS degree with an emphasis in Business Education from Snow College.  She has many years of experience as an administrative assistant including twelve years working for the Academic Vice President, at then Utah Valley State College.  She has been administrative support to the UVU president since 2003.
