Kirk was born and raised in Utah Valley. Following high school he went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science from UVSC. Throughout his time at UVSC, he has developed a deep love for the school; in fact, excluding a brief period of two years, Kirk has been at UVSC as a student or employee since 1996. He is grateful for the chance to give back to an institution that has given so much to him.

     Following his educational experience at UVSC, Kirk went on to earn a Masters degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University and is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.

     Kirk is married to Katie DiStefano (they met in the bookstore at UVSC). They have a six-year-old boy, McKay, and Connor who is three. They live in Heber.
