What is a Leave of Absence?
At some point in your career at Utah Valley University (UVU), you may need to take
some time away from your studies; you may need to take a leave of absence from school.
Common reasons students leave include: serving a religious or humanitarian mission,
military service, family responsibilities, financial and employment reasons or medical

at www.uvu.edu/admissions/. This should be done approximately three months prior to
your estimated date of return.
Benefits of taking a Leave of Absence?
Students who file a leave of absence may place their scholarships on hold and may
be eligible to use it when they return. The Leave of Absence process allows someone
you designate to register you for courses prior to your return, so that you don’t
miss out on priority registration opportunities. The transition back to school will
be made easier.
Who can take a Leave of Absence?
Leaves of Absence are generally granted and reviewed on a yearly basis for reasons
relating to serving a religious or humanitarian mission, military service, family
responsibilities, financial and employment reasons or medical reasons.
What process must I follow to place my scholarship on hold during my Leave of Absence?
When you begin to complete the Leave of Absence process, the Scholarship Request to
Hold form should come up. Fill out the form, along with a copy of your mission papers
or any other documentation that you may need and submit it to the Scholarship Office
at BA 105. Scholarships are only held for Religious or Humanitarian Service mission,

You will need to contact One Stop at (801) 863-4636 to change your registration status.
What do I do if I have filed a Leave of Absence and have Financial Aid?
If you are receiving financial aid, you will need to contact the Financial Aid Office
at (801) 863-8442 or BA 105 within three business days of filing the Leave of Absence
to complete the entire process.
What steps must I take before I leave the University?
- File your Leave of Absence online through UVLink.
- Meet with your academic advisor to review your courses you will need to fulfill when
you return. The academic advisor should fill out the advisor checklist, and give you
a copy of Wolverine Tracks. Please give the checklist and Wolverine Tracks to the
person you designated to have access to your records.
- If you anticipate needing to have a parent or another designated person act as your
agent in your absence, you will need to fill out a Release of Student Information Form (pdf) and submit it to One Stop.

What is the process for returning from a leave?
Returning back to UVU is easy. You will receive a letter and an e-mail welcoming you
back to UVU, just before priority registration of the semester that you are scheduled

I am going to attend another school, but I want to return to UVU. What do I do?
Generally speaking, students who will attend another institution, even if the plan
is to return to UVU, must file a leave of absence.
