  Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Jack E. Sturgeon Biography

Jack Sturgeon
Jack Sturgeon directs the recruiting operations for Utah Valley University Army ROTC.
He served 25 years as an active duty Army Officer.    
Mr. Sturgeon began his career as a helicopter pilot.   He commanded Assault Helicopter and Fixed Wing units.
He served as a Foreign Area Officer with emphasis in Western Europe.   His wartime service includes Operation
Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
  He deployed in
support of Operation Uphold Democracy.
  He served as the senior U.S. Officer with the United Nations Mission
in East Timor restoring peace and establishing a new nation.
  He led the helicopter rescue operation after
Hurricane Katrina, transporting over 90,000 evacuees, and 30,000 tons of equipment.
  Mr. Sturgeon led the
development, training and deployment of Task Force ODIN in Iraq, which identified and destroyed over 3,700
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs
) during its first year of operation.     
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, a master’s from Marshall University, and is a
graduate of both the U.S. Army and Portuguese Army Command and General Staff Colleges.
  He is a graduate
of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.
  He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, and has
been to 54 countries.
