Goal #1

Stabilize enrollment on a steady pattern of growth for the institution through recruitment and retention.

Rationale: Anticipated growth within our service region. UVU will reach 40,000+ students by 2020. Utah's minority population will increase dramatically over the next 5-10 years. Limited recruitment material currently exists to promote individual programs and academic successes.

  • Objective 1.1 - Incrementally increase enrollment by 6% for 2016-2017 and 3-4% for 2017-2020.

  • Objective 1.2 - Implement recruitment strategies to increase enrollment by focusing on targeted populations: First Generation, Latino, Women & Pacific Islander populations.

Goal #2

Increase student completion rates.

UVU completion rates are lower than peer and national averages. UVU's overall completion goal (for FT, FT, all degrees) is 32% by 2020.

  • Objective 2.1 - Implement campus-wide plan to increase the overall completion rate of UVU students in collaboration with Academic Affairs.

Goal #3

Promote appropriate support programs for students which promote cultural competence and inclusion.

Student Affairs recognizes the need for cultural competence and inclusion in order to develop the holistic program experience students need to succeed in higher education.

  • Objective 3.1 - Collaborate to achieve inclusion priorities as listed in the UVU Inclusion Plan.

    • By 2020: UVU will have 50 female and 50 male students

    • By 2020: 50% of all associate, bachelor and graduate degrees will be awarded to females.

Goal #4

Create a culture which promotes an exceptional Student Experience.

As Student Affairs employee embodies the Utah Valley University experience by implementing the following characteristics: Empowered, Respected, Inspired, Connected, and Safe. Achieving collaboration amongst departments, unity across the division, and providing a student-centered experience, the Student Affairs division will be more capable to deliver programs and services toward students, ultimately leading to student success.

  • Objective 4.1 - Implement strategic plan for promoting HEROICS: Empowerment, Respect, Inclusion, Connectedness, and Safety.

Goal #5

Maintain appropriate student policies that support compliance and legislative efforts, maintain a safe and secure campus, and support student services.

Policies must be updated in order to be compliant with State and Federal regulations.

  • Objective 5.1 - Complete the implementation of Policy 162 on Sexual Violence in the Workplace and Academic Setting.

Additional Priorities of High Importance

6. Shift Student Affairs to a culture of compliance. In close partnership with Internal Audit, develop and implement a plan to address financial and conflict of interest / commitment practices in Student Affairs.

7. Create an Intramural Program commensurate with a regional university using recommendations from a full unit assessment scheduled for Summer 2016.
