Costume Shop Supervisor
Carla Summers is the Resident Costume Designer and Costume Shop Supervisor. She is married to Kerry Summers, a professional singer and entertainer, and they have two daughters. She trained first at this school which was called Trade Tech then, and worked in the Ready to Wear Industry for eight years as a seamstress. She traveled around the world for ten years performing as a dancer in and designing costumes for USO Shows for the Department of Defense.
This and other professional experiences have taken her to locations all over this country and to many other countries including Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Guam, Philippines, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia , Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, many Pacific Islands, and all the Aleutian Islands.
Carla earned a degree in Fashion Design with a Theatre emphasis from Brigham Young University in 1988. She has worked as a Costume Designer for theater, film and television for 33 years costuming numerous television series, movies of the week and feature films for many different television networks, private corporations and studios like Paramount, Warner Brothers, and Disney.
Carla has enjoyed working with great talents such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Debby Reynolds, Suzanne Pleshette, Hillary Swank, Courtney Cox, Terri Garr, Barbara Mandrell, Richard Thomas, F. Murray Abraham, Roma Downey, Mimi Rogers, Ellen Barkin, Harry Hamblin, Tracey Gold, Suzanne Sommers, and Henry Gibson, and many others.
Some of these people have left an indelible impression on her life experience with their own professional or personal qualities. Carla's specialty and training is in recreating historical clothing for museums and live productions in the Victorian Era and she really enjoys designing period productions at Utah Valley University.
She also enjoys doing custom designs and tailoring for Bridal and Formal Wear. She loves to learn and share knowledge with others who like to learn and has taught Costume Design and Construction in the Department of Theatre for several years.
