Joseph C. Fox, Scene Shop Foreman

Joseph C. Fox began his career in lighting design by running the light board for a production of Winnie the Pooh at Indianapolis Civic Theater when he was in the fifth grade. Twenty-four years later, it is still his love and passion. Joseph received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design and Technology from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana where he designed lighting for such shows as Brighton Beach Memoirs and On the Verge as well as sound design for The Diviners and Dancing at Lughnasa. in

After his tenure at UE was through, Joseph had the great privilege to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatrical Design from Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts. At Brandeis, Joseph designed several shows including Major Barbara, The Misanthrope, Lo, She Comes, and The Sty of the Blind Pig.

While there, he also had the opportunity to meet and associate with Tony award winning designers Dennis Parichy and Chris Perry. After finishing his education, Joseph spent the next several years freelancing as a Designer, Carpenter and Electrician in Boston, Indianapolis and Los Angeles.

During this time, he designed such productions as My Left Breast, Asher’s Command, Les Miserables, No Niggers, No Jews, No Dogs and Little Shop of Horrors. In 2004, Joseph moved to Utah and began to work and teach at Utah Valley University as Scene Shop Foreman and Resident Lighting Designer. He has continued freelancing in the area. You may have seen his work on Kiss Me Kate at Utah Music Theatre, Don’t Drink the Water at the Hale Center Theater, West Valley, Aida at BYU and Big River, Forever Plaid and Barefoot in the Park at Provo Theatre Company.

Joseph thoroughly enjoys his work here at Utah Valley University and hopes it will continue for many years to come.
