The Mystery of Edwin Drood, music, lyrics, and book by Rupert Holmes

Based on Charles Dickens' unfinished novel of the same name, this musical usesthe world of music hall and pantomime as a backdrop, following the exploits of members of the Theatre Royale Music Hall Company as they attempt to complete the unfinished story of Edwin Drood—with some sing-along help from the audience!

Cast and Crew Biographies

Alex Rettie (Stage Manager, /James Throttle, ASM) is a Performance major from Riverton, Utah. Other UVU credits include Chester in Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, and the soundboard operator for Next to Normal. He will be seen as Donald in You Can’t Take it With You this April. Off campus Alex has worked with the Riverton Arts Council, the Sandy Arts Guild, and the Grassroots Shakespeare Company. Special thanks to my mom and dad, for putting up with the countless hours of singing, dancing, and working on my accent. Also, to my brother Michael for letting us borrow his drums. Alexander Woods (Neville Landless) is a Performance major from Seattle, Washington. Other UVU credits include The Groom in Blood Wedding, Brian in D.N.A., Hamlet in Hamlet and Ophelia Go Swimming, the Inn Keeper in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and the Musician in The Story Stone.  Special thanks to Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal.

 

Amanda Shaffer (Costume Designer) has a BA in Theatre Arts from Weber State and is currently the Assistant Costume Shop Supervisor at UVU. She was an assistant teacher for University of Utah’s study abroad program in Shakespearean Theatre. She won the National Distinguished Costume Design award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Off campus she has designed The Plain Princess, Hello Dolly, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Curious Savage, and Orchesis Dance. “Special thanks to my parents, Catherine, Jean-Louise, and Jim.”

 

Amber Dodge (Helena Landless/Janet Conover) is a Costume Design major from Midway, Utah. UVU credits include the 1st Chorus in Murder in the Cathedral and Holiday Night Live 2103 and 2014. Off campus credits include The Winter’s Tale, Urinetown, Once Upon a Mattress, Seussical the Musical, and Arsenic and Old Lace. “Special thanks to my friends, family, and the person sitting on the far left of the third row.”

 

Brenna Grace Christen (Florence Gill/Beatrice) is a Performance major from Provo, Utah. Other UVU credits include the Moon in Blood Wedding, Kathy in Company, and Holiday Night Live 2014 & 2014.  Off campus credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie, As You Like It, The Drowsy Chaperone, and a character performer at Walt Disney World. “Special thanks to Tamalin, Cody, Coleman, Brooke, Carson, Andrew, Rob, and Emily. DeGrey Christensen (Durdles/Nick Cricker) is a Performance major from Woodland Hills, Utah. This is his first show at UVU. Off campus credits include Les Miserables, The Importance of Being Ernest, Alice in Wonderland, Into the Woods, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.

 

Erika Ovuoba (Princess Puffer/Angela Prysock) is a Performance major from Farmington, Utah. Other UVU credits include Erika in Letters to Myself, the Expert in Caucasian Chalk Circle, Captain Dom in The Story Stone, Tituba in The Crucible, and Holiday Night Live 2014. Jacob Theo Squire (Clive Paget/Jasper) is a Performance major from West Valley City, Utah. Other UVU credits include Doctor Fine/Madden in Next to Normal, Judd Fry in Oklahoma, and Hot Blades Harry in Urinetown. Off campus he has worked for the Playmill Theatre, Hale Center Theater Orem, and Hale Center Theatre West Valley.  “I want to say a special thanks to the wonderful professors here who have helped me grow so much, my parents and family for all their support and to Brian Fuller for getting me started in theatre.”

 

Jenny Latimer (Rosa Bud) is a Philosophy major from Orem, Utah. Other UVU credits include Izzy in Rabbit Hole. Jenny originated the role of Cosette in the national tour of Les Miserables. She has performed on America’s Got Talent and the 85th Academy Awards. She has also performed with the Westport Country Playhouse, Baltimore Center Stage, The Granbury Opera House, Tuacahn, Sundance Summer Theatre, Hale Center Theatre Orem, Hale Center Theatre West Valley, and Brigham Young University. Jenny is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association. “Thanks to my Rob, Chris Clark, and my family.”

 

Jill Loveridge (Properties, Electrician) is a Design major from Lehi, Utah. Other UVU credits include properties design for Dialogues, lighting design for The Story Stone, production stage manager for Caucasian Chalk Circle, Blood Wedding, and Milk Dragon, and assistant stage manager for The Imaginary Invalid. Jordan Cummings (Chairman/Bill Cartwright/Mayor Sapsea) is a Performance major from American Fork, Utah. Previous UVU credits include Jamie Lockhart in The Robber Bridegroom, Sempronius in Cato, James Glantz in Wings of Wax, Truman in Rings of the Tree, and has been a member of the Blackbox Repertory Company. Kacey Spadafora (Horace/Ensemble) is a Performance major from Spanish Fork, Utah. Kailey Azure Green (Violet Balfour/Townsperson) is a Performance major from Provo, Utah. Other UVU credits include Susan in Company, Ophelia in Hamlet and Ophelia Go Swimming, Julius/Penny in Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, and Holiday Night Live 2012 & 2014. Off campus, Kailey has worked three times with the Grassroots Shakespeare Company and was a character performer at Walt Disney World. “Special thanks to Rob and Dave for being such wonderful, encouraging teachers. Laicey M. Gibby-Brown (Assistant Stage Manager) is a Performance major from Riverdale, Utah. Other UVU credits include The Bride’s Servant in Blood Wedding and Grammy/Chrysanthemum in Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. Laicey was a crewmember of The Story Stone, the light board operator for The Romeo and Juliet Project, and the soundboard operator for Taming of the Shrew. Off campus she has performed with the Centerpointe Legacy Theatre. “Always a special thanks to my mom.  I would be utterly lost without her!”

 

C. Mckay Nicoll (Phillip Bax/Bazzard/Waiter) is a Performance major from Sandy, Utah. Previous UVU credits include Holiday Night Live 2014. Rachel Bigler (Flo/Principle Dancer) is a Performance major from Mukilteo, Washington. Riley Branning (Edwin Drood/Alice Nutting) is a Performance major from Houston, Texas. Previous UVU credits include the Bride in Blood Wedding, Sarah in Company, Abi/Pem in The Story Stone, Garland in Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, and Holiday Night Live 2013 & 2014. Spicer Carr (Reverend Crisparkle/Cedric Moncrieff) is a Performance/Playwriting major from Raleigh, North Carolina. Previous UVU credits include Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte and will soon appear as Daddy in The Boy Who Loved Monsters and the Girl Who Loved Peas. Off campus credits include The Shoemaker’s Holiday, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Pirates of Penzance, Hamlet, and The Mikado. “Special thanks to the UVU theatre department and the production team for Drood for allowing me to be in an amazing production.”

 

Stephen Purdy (Scenic Design) is the Design Faculty Coordinator in the UVU Theatre Department. At UVU he has designed The Romeo and Juliet Project, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, Vincent in Brixton, The Doll’s House, and Oklahoma!. He has also designed Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Get Your Gun, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Sound of Music, and The Fantasticks for the Sundance Summer Theatre. “Special thanks to my wife, Edris.”

 

Thayne Caldwell (Deputy/Nick Cricker Jr.) is a Performance major from Lehi, Utah.  This is first production at UVU. Off campus credits include Fiddler on the Roof, The Crucible, The Tempest, My Favorite Year, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. “Special thanks to my loving parents and UVU who are both helping me to gain an education and further my life goals!”

 

Trevor Elzey (Harry Sayle/Townsperson) is a Performance major from Cedar Hills, Utah. Previous UVU credits include the Woodcutter in Blood Wedding and Tommy in Ah, Wilderness.
