TRiO Student Support Services Mentoring Program

The TRiO Student Support Services Program Mentoring Program (TSSSM) was designed to assist students who are experiencing academic difficulties. The TSSSM program is to help clients improve their academic standing, to promote wise choices and/or improve their life skills and attitudes. The Mentors are to act as guides to the clients. Assisting them to understand the university culture, including what is expected of them as students at a university and to help understand course assignments. Their role is to “be there” for clients and, as helping paraprofessionals, to determine academic and social needs. The mentors are trained to listen, evaluate, assist and refer clients as needed. The mentors in the program include UVU junior and senior students who are employed by TRiO. They all have achieved at least a GPA of 3.2 or higher and have mastered the university and class setting.
