MathLab Online

Do you need help with math, but you cannot come into the MathLab? MathLab Online is the answer for you! During live tutoring hours, MathLab Online offers real-time chat between students and tutors. If you have questions for tutors and cannot ask them during live tutoring hours, you can go to the Q & A Center. Questions can be submitted anytime, and when the response is posted, you will be notified by email. If you cannot wait for the response, or you've asked the question in previous live sessions, you can go to the Archive Center, where you can review your own or others' live tutorial sessions.

Writing Center Online (OWL)

 Online Tutorials

Discuss your paper in an online chat with a tutor, using our Online Writing Lab (OWL) sessions.

For an OWL tutorial, simply follow these four steps.

Step 1

Step One: Make an appointment to meet with a tutor online.

To make an appointment, call the Writing Center at (801) 863-8936 or drop by LI 208 to sign up at the front desk during our regular Writing Center hours.

OWL tutorials are available at specific times (see OWL Hours below), but you can call the Writing Center any time we're open (see Writing Center Hours below) to schedule an appointment.

Appointments start at 10 minutes after the hour and last up to 50 minutes.

OWL Hours:

Monday: 3:10 pm, 4:10 pm, 5:10 pm
Tuesday: 9:10 am, 3:10 pm, 4:10 pm, 5:10 pm
Wednesday: 9:10 am, 3:10 pm, 4:10 pm, 5:10 pm
Thursday: 9:10 am, 3:10 pm, 5:10 pm
Friday: 9:10 am, 10:10 am, 3:10 pm, 4:10 pm

Step 2

Step Two: Submit your paper at least one hour before your appointment.

Click the above link to fill in our online, electronic form with information about your class, assignment, and concerns. Copy your papers and paste it into the large box at the end of the form. Then click the Submit button.

If you have any troubles with the form, email the paper directly to writelab@uvu.edu . Or call us at (801) 863-8936.

If you're on a tight schedule, call us before your appointment to make sure we've received the paper. Sometimes email servers are tricky.

Step 3

Step Three: Register for NetTutor .

If you have not used our online tutoring before, give yourself time to register before your appointment.

Click the above link to go to NetTutor (the program that runs the online tutoring); on the opening screen click "Register Now" in the top, left corner.

The Access Code should be filled in, but if it's not use this code: 642-345-0034.

Choose your login name and enter your email address. The program will send a password (a random string of numbers and letters) to the address you enter. If you don't see this password within a few minutes, check your Junk Mail folder. If you don't see the password there, either, call us at (801) 863-8936.

Step 4

Step Four: Log in to NetTutor for your chat-based tutorial at time of appointment.

A few minutes before your appointment, click the above link to go to NetTutor. Find the login on the left side of the screen.

Once you're in the program, click "Join Live Class" (If the tutor is not yet in the chat room, the button will say "Start Live Class." Enter the chatroom, and the tutor will be with you in a few minutes. If the tutor has not appeared by 10 after the hour, call us at (801) 863-8936.)

NetTutor uses cookies, pop-ups, and JavaScript. Once you're in the program, click the Net Browser button to make sure your computer is ready to run NetTutor.

  • To allow cookies and pop-ups, go to Tools on your browser tool bar and find Options or Internet Options. Select Security (in Internet Explorer) or Content (in Firefox) and lower your security settings or choose to allow pop-ups.
  • To enable Java, go to www.java.com and click the big "Free Java Download" button.
If you have trouble, call us at (801) 863-8936 or contact NetTutor's support team (look around for the technical support links or send an email to support@nettutor.com ).
