University College Faculty Scholarship Award
Award Criteria
The University College Faculty Scholarship Award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship. Outstanding scholarship can be evidenced through a variety of activities such as one or more of the following:
- A sustained record of published research in recognized journals or venues in the faculty member’s discipline that has resulted in new knowledge, understanding, insights, or interpretation.
- Significant peer-reviewed publications focused on the scholarship of teaching and learning that have contributed to the faculty member’s teaching effectiveness and/or resulted in the improvement of educational practice.
- An on-going record of scholarly presentations, papers, or seminars at major national and/or international conferences or professional meetings that involve the sharing of new ideas and scholarly research.
- The publication of single or co-authored scholarly books or textbooks, book chapters, or monographs that contribute to the professional literature or to professional practice.
- Noteworthy contributions as a journal editor, adjudicator of journal articles, books, or grant proposals, or serving as a consultant in scholarly enterprises outside the university that have advanced professional practice or knowledge.
- The awarding of grants or research funding involving competition and/or peer review that demonstrate quality of the faculty member’s scholarship.
- Significant technology-based projects such as the development of computer software, multi-media projects, DVDs, computer-based curriculum, etc. that have contributed to the body of professional knowledge or to the improvement of pedagogy.
Particular consideration will be given to scholarship that has advanced the faculty member’s discipline and the mission of University College.
Eligibility
Full-time tenure-track faculty members in University College are eligible for nomination. Previous recipients are eligible for nomination in the fifth year following the receipt of their award. Accomplishments since the previous award will receive primary emphasis.

Procedures for Nomination
Candidates may be nominated by faculty within University College. No self-nominations are allowed.
The following documents (electronic or hard copies) must be submitted to the dean’s office no later than 5pm on January 31.

Procedures for Granting of the Award
A committee of three, appointed by the dean, will review all nominations and recommend an award recipient to the dean. The committee may decline to make an award or may reopen the competition if too few appropriate nominations are received. The dean’s office will notify nominees of the decision reached by the committee. The award will be given at the annual University College Faculty/Staff Excellence Reception and at the University Awards of Excellence Evening.
University College Faculty Service Award
Award Criteria
The nomination and selection of faculty for the University College Faculty Service Award is based on any combination of cumulative service to the profession, college, university, and community. Contributions should emphasize concern for the common good, giving of one’s self, and giving of one’s time. Community service should be an extension of the faculty member’s academic expertise. Evidence of substantial positive impact, a pattern of service over time, scope of the service activities, and recent or current service contributions are critical criteria.
