Welcome to University College at Utah Valley University
It is my pleasure to let you in on a little secret. There is a division of Academic Affairs—called the University College—that is dedicated to helping students succeed by providing all sorts of resources, and it is my job as dean to make sure that our services produce results. The best possible measure of our success is for you to earn a degree—like our popular University Studies Associate Arts/Science degree or any other one of your choosing. Set your sights on earning a degree rather than just going to college! Connecting often with your advisor is the best way to make that happen.
If you have heard that it is a good idea to take your math and compositions classes in your first semester or two, believe it! We pride ourselves in hiring master teachers to teach the courses in our Developmental Math and Literacies and Composition Departments. To support those classes, we have certified tutors standing by in our Math Lab and in our Writing Center where you can get help — at no cost — for all stages of writing a paper. Free tutoring is also available for many challenging subjects like physics and chemistry, to name just two, in Academic Tutoring.
Our Department of Student Leadership and Success Studies offers a vibrant set of courses ranging from major and career exploration to library research and stress management. I personally recommend two courses titled “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “Global Trends and You.”
I’ve only touched on some of what we offer to help you release your potential as a student on your way to becoming an educated citizen in a democratic society. Please help me spread the word among your friends and accept my invitation to explore our website right now; it has been carefully designed to highlight what we can do for you!
